Long ago were the days when Facebook and its instant messaging features were used in the same context. Facebook and Messenger separated a while ago and that is when it really started to evolve as a standalone app and feature. Let's see what it's all about today!
Facebook Messenger's download size appears modest but it has a famous habit of taking up way too much space for an instant messaging app. The apps design hasn't changed that much. Users have had the chance to test out the new dark mode to switch things up a bit.
New features include Messenger Story where people can post what they are up to as a picture or a video and it lasts 24 hours for their friends to see. Chats now include features such as sending locations, playing games, voting on polls, and inserting interesting GIFs, emojis, and pictures.
Messenger games are also a great addition to the overall app experience as you can play them without having to download them separately. You can easily invite your friends to play with you and we must say we got addicted to Uno for a while!
The Messenger app can be used to send videos, pictures, and voice recordings stored on your phone or created on the spot, but you are still unable to send any file format by default. The app feels slow even on modern Android phones and some messages don't appear in the notifications bar unless you open the app.
Chat heads are Messenger's signature feature and they can be quite useful to chat without actually opening the app. There is one downside though and that is that its sheer size after a week or two of use can be worrying for users with limited storage.
